Mitigation of Flash Flood in Guwahati City Through Ecological Management Practices (EMPs)

Scope of the Work

a)  To carry out site-visits and consult with the people and dwellers for developing road map  for smooth implementation of the project. 

b)  To fix the watershed boundary in the field. 

c)  To  identify  the  length,  size  and  types  of  drainage  structures  for  safe  drainage  of  the watershed.

d)  To identify the locations for different types of walk ways, their length and numbers 

e)  To identify the location of vegetative EMPs. 

f)  To  identify  the  location  of  water  harvesting  structures  and  the  requirement  of  water conservation.

g)  To  address  the  landslide  problems and  suggesting  need  of  detail  slope  stability  analysis and implementing  additional landslide prevention  measure. 

h)  To prepare detailed design of various structures. 

i)  To prepare detailed estimates for EMP’s and various other structures as per Govt. rates. 

 

Implementation strategy of the project:

  • Prevention of splash and rill erosion by proposed vegetative EMPs. 
  • Implementation of erosion control measures to stop erosion from natural drains, gullies and walk ways.
  • Development of water harvesting points along with the silt traps and other drainage structures. 
  • Afforestation and plantation of valuable trees to have at least two layers of canopy cover. 
  • Plantation  of  fruit  trees,  medicinal  plants and  herbs  within  the  boundary  of  the residents. 
  • Aware to local people to cover the open space by planting of vegetation and not to unnecessary cut the hilly slope of the hill.
